For many years technology has been available to pull moisture out of the atmosphere and create water from literally nothing. Products such as this, however, are very expensive. The technology is, moreover, propitiatory; many companies are competing with one another for the `market share’. These products and the technology they use are jealously guarded secrets which no one else can copy – because they are intended to make a financial profit. This is the logic of the monetary system, of course. Find something to make a financial profit then market it. The human need is relegated to a secondary concern.

We need an open source version of this technology. We need everyone working on one prototype, so that improvements can be recognised by everyone involved, awareness of flaws can be shared by everyone, and best practice can be maintained globally.

Politics liberates temporarily; when politicians hostile to progress gain power you are again enslaved.

Technology liberates permanently. It is irreversible and can not be uninvented.

We should be developing open source technology so that everyone can obtain basic human needs without the acquisition of money / currency. We can then get rid of money and politicians.

I just came across the equal money system website equalmoney.org and it is refreshing and inspiring to find an organisation promoting an economic system that is fairer than the one we currently have.

However, the Equal Money System needs politics to implement it. In other words, society must be convinced to change to this system. That is a huge uphill struggle with the profiteers and `dark forces’ of the current system in control and constantly working against change. If, despite all the opposition, we did get the Equal Money System implemented we would have to be careful not to allow society to revert at some future stage to what we have now.

The only way to ensure permanent irreversible change is through technology. Open source networking of technology will help us establish an economy where individuals are in control of resources, products and services. Then there will be no opportunity for profiteers to `come back from the dead’.

As technology advances it will give individuals more empowerment and there will be less need for money as exchange mechanism. We will produce our own products, services and energy etc. and so we will not have to purchase them. There will eventually be nothing to exchange.

We have ended child labour but we do not live in Utopia.

The general population and women (not just wealthy males) can vote, but we do not live in Utopia.

Any further changes we make to society will not result in Utopia.

But to conservatives, anyone who wants to improve society is guilty of Utopianism.

They say this to try to put people off the idea of change, to suggest that change is naive and impractical. Nobody wants to be regarded as naive and impractical or supporting a childish concept such as Utopia.

Abolishing the monetary system is essential for progress – but when it happens we still won’t be in Utopia.

So many people buy lottery tickets and now we have the Euro Lotto with a much bigger jackpot.

Why do people want to win millions of pounds?

Because they want freedom.

Freedom from what, exactly?

Money. They want freedom from money.

They want to have so much money that, in effect, money becomes irrelevant to their day-to-day existence. For them, money would cease to have relevance. They would no longer have to justify their basic human needs for shelter, clothing, food and water, energy and health by toiling for the means to attain these things.

So it is clear that a multimillionaire is `free’ in a way a poor person is not. A poor person must toil for the means of getting basic human needs. They are not free of money. If they are not free, then what are they?

The opposite of freedom, it can be argued, is slavery. But being poor is not slavery, is it? After all, poor people can work hard or get lucky and become wealthy. But even slaves could eventually buy they way to freedom. Slavery still existed. Even though millionaires can be created and people can win the lottery, poor people will still exist.

If you were living in poverty and won the Euro lottery and become a multimillionaire you would then be free from having to toil to acquire money for your basic needs. Good news! Great! For you. But what about your dear friends and family and all the acquaintances who are still poor? Would you not also want them to be free from slavery? Why would you want them to continue to suffer now you have the means to make them free?

But in a monetary system everyone can not be wealthy and so everyone can not be free. If you tried to help all those poor people by giving them a share of your money you would lessen your own freedom.

Everyone in the world can not be healthy, either, under the monetary system, as I posted here.

The only way for everyone to become free is to abolish the system of money.

Everyone, or most people, cut their own toenails or finger nails. They do so because they have the specialised equipment for the task; nail clippers or very small scissors.

Although there is evidence that even ancient civilizations made tiny knives to do the job – its almost impossible to cut ones own nails without the assistance of another person.

So lets say, for the sake of argument, that before the invention of nail-clippers and small scissors, each person had to employ the services of a professional nail-cutter. Lets also say that people of this profession, realising that they had a captive market, charged extortionate fees for their services. Lets surmise that this band of nail-cutters developed specialised tools to help them do the job; and only their trade union knew how to make this instrument and could manufacture it. They guarded this secret fiercely, so that nobody but them could cut nails. The nail-cutters would become wealthy because people would have no option other than to use them to have their nails cut.

Now into this scenario comes the invention of the common nail-clipper or small scissors. Imagine that someone finds a way of manufacturing, mass producing and distributing these tools to people inexpensively. The financial `hold’ which the nail-cutters had on society would be broken because their services would be redundant as more and more people could cut their own nails.

This shows how technology, no matter how primitive, can empower individuals.

In place of nail-clippers or scissors we can have any technology we wish.

In computing, of course, we have Open Source and there is software and operating systems like Linux which can be distributed for development by anyone rather than being a closed secret system that only a few people control.

This concept should be extended to every sector of society, especially energy. Imagine every household having their own energy supply that is not reliant on paying extortion money to energy companies.

The ultimate scam by profiteering service providers is that they charge people money for things that people could obtain free – if they have the technology to do so.

This is why we must urgently develop open source technology and manufacturing.

The only effective method of abolishing money is to put it beyond opinions, beyond arguments, beyond politics and even beyond democracy.

The only effective method is to force it on society – not by violence or revolution or terrorism but simply by using the natural process that accompanies technological advances.

Who voted for the invention of the Internet? What government legislated for its development? But the internet has changed the world. It will be through technology, not politicians, that we will succeed in abolishing money.

Through open source networking we can develop, manufacture and distribute technology without the need for money and this will eventually force society to change.

An example from computing. Many companies who previously used the Microsoft Windows operating system (and paid for the the license and all the software) are turning to Linux, which is Open Source (it comes under the GNU General Public License – everyone is permitted to copy and distribute verbatim copies of this license document).

Lets say that it costs an imaginary company £1,000 to buy MS Windows license and software but they find that Linux costs them nothing for software and applications that can do the same thing – they have `saved’ £1,000.

OK, you may say, this is just saving money, not abolishing it. But this process is actually more profound and permanent; money no longer becomes relevant to this area of the companies dealings. Money has, in a sense, been abolished for this particular matter.

Well, this still isn’t abolishing all money in society, you may argue – only for one little aspect of a companies dealings. But this is the way that money will be abolished; piece by piece, Salami-fashion, until most areas of our lives are not reliant on services or technology that require money because they will be provided by open source systems.

“But I don’t want to change. I don’t want money to be abolished,” profiteers will complain. “I have a right to charge people money for items and services and I have a right to make a profit from them.”

Indeed. But having the `right’ to do something does not mean that the opportunity to do it will always be there. I have the `right’ not to use electricity and to ride in horse-drawn carriages.

Some people don’t like the idea of abolishing money and will put forward the most eloquent pro-money arguments and rebuttals of the open source system. But these arguments are irrelevant to the reality of change. Those who prefer to ride in horse-drawn carts and have gas streetlights outside their homes can huff and puff till they are blue in the face but can never drag society back to the dark ages.

Because some things are too important to be left to debate and argument. Change has to be forced on society and conservatives and profiteers must be dragged kicking and screaming into the future and accept the reality of progress.

Poor people die younger and suffer more ill-health, while wealthy people are healthier and live longer. This is a truism of every country, every continent, every political system, every culture. It has been a truism throughout history. See the statistical evidence in a BBC video.

Monetarists argue that the answer is to `make more people wealthy’ but that can never work. It is illogical. If everyone was wealthy there would be more money chasing the same amount of goods and services and the result would be inflation. With everyone having a lot of money without a corresponding increase in the available goods and services prices of the available good and services would be pushed higher due to increased demand.

The monetary system works because a minority of people are wealthy. But if everyone was wealthy then the price of items and services would increase to make up for it and society would be back where it started.

In other words, the monetary system needs to control the amount of money in circulation and this means limiting the amount of wealthy people. This also ensures that most people are poor. And die younger than the wealthy. And have worse health than the wealthy.

Anyone supporting the monetary system is consigning the majority of the worlds population to ill-health and premature death.

The monetary system must be abolished if we are to see good health and longevity for all the people of the world.

Everyone on the planet can only obtain basic needs (shelter, food, water, cloths, energy, health & medical, transport etc.) through the exchange medium created by governments and banks – money.

It is need that determines ethical provision. We do not need luxury goods so it is ethical to charge people money to obtain them. But everyone needs housing, water, food, clothing energy, transport etc. to survive so it is unethical to charge people money for them.

It is unethical to require money in exchange for basic needs because there is not enough money in the world to ensure that everyone in the world has their basic needs satisfied. There are, however, ample resources in the world to provide every human on the planet with basic needs. It is clear that money-currency is a barrier that prevents the provision of basic need to the world’s population.

Money can only operate as a system by creating inequality. If everyone on the planet was a millionaire it would not work. It requires a small number of people to poses wealth and the majority to be poor.

Isn’t it strange that some people can `own’ land and others not?

If the concept of ownership of land was transferred to politics it would be akin to only a minority of people being allowed the vote and the majority being barred from voting. We recognise political inequality as being unfair and undemocratic but we are conditioned to accept without question that land distribution is beyond the scope of democracy.

If we even raise the question of land democracy we are accused of supporting the political left. Yet land ownership should be beyond party politics; it should be truly democratic. How can any one person or group of people own a piece of the earth? It is absurd. The principle of democratic resources (including the earth) must be acknowledged before we achieve an ethical provision of resources.

Society is obsessed with `ownership’ in all its forms. Energy companies as as if they own the electricity and gas they provide; water companies as as if they own the water they provide; next, companies making solar energy panels will claim to own the sun itself!

Land ownership, and of course all ownership, is tied to money. Once we free the basic needs sectors from the tyranny of money we can start to use resources on the basis of need.

Go into a supermarket where you have never been in before and search for the isles or shelves that sell household cleaning agents, washing powders, detergent, personal hygiene etc. It will take you, on average, under a minute.

Now go find some bicarbonate of soda.

Not so easy, is it? And when you eventually find the tiny container it will be hidden away in the home-baking section.

When was the last time bicarbonate of soda was advertised in any media? Have you seen an advertisement for white vinegar? What about one of those “miracle” kitchen surface cleaning adverts using lemon juice instead of whatever latest chemical product profiteers come up with?

Bicarbonate of soda, lemon juice, white vinegar and salt can do a superior job to most of the expensive and toxic chemical cleaning products on the market today. So why are these time-proven products not advertised as the effective and safe cleaning agents they are? Why do they not appear in supermarkets along side other cleaning products or sold in larger more economical containers?

The answer is that substances that are both efficient and inexpensive do not make a profit. There is no profit in efficiency, safety and effectiveness.

As well as being non-toxic bicarbonate of soda in particular has both medicinal and personal hygiene uses – but you will not find it on the medicine shelf along side the drugs and chemical solutions and creams. Why? Because it is inexpensive and effective.

Cleaning Uses of Bicarbonate of Soda

Washing Up To a bowl of hot water, add 1 tablespoon of bicarbonate of soda & the juice of half a lemon . Dishwasher Powder Make up a powder for the dishwasher by mixing 2 tablespoons of bicarbonate of soda with 2 tablespoons of borax substitute.

Cleaning Sinks Either place bicarbonate of soda directly onto a damp cloth or make up a paste of soda with a little water. Wipe around the sink & rinse well.

Cooker Tops As above, make a paste of soda & water and apply with a cloth. Wipe over well and rinse with cold water.

Choice equals profit when the product is not really effective, and so the consumer must try another then another to see if it works better…..

Bicarbonate of Soda and the Medical Profession

Have GPs ever prescribed Bicarb of Soda to their patients for the ailments it is suitable for? Or are they too preoccupied with the chemical creams and drugs the pharmaceutical companies encourage them to try out on patients?

Transparency

Bicarbonate of Soda, white vinegar, lemon juice and plain salt have another great advantage on chemical products. Their chemical constitutions are simple and their effects well-known and time-honoured. Even non-medical people can easily research these substances, which have a very long and illustrious history. It is this transparency that elevates the simple and natural substances about complex chemical compounds. Testing a new product can never be as robust as centuries of experience and to a certain extent, patients are the last line of Guinea pigs for a new chemical product.
